Comparison of open pollinating varieties and F1 hybrids

by U. Geier and G. Mergardt

For many years, the use of F1 hybrids has been regarded skeptically within the biodynamic movement. In light of this background, the Forschungsring was commissioned in 2022 to improve the knowledge about the food quality of vegetables of different varieties. This evaluation involved assessing reports from various holistic methods, in particular the picture-forming methods (here again primarily copper chloride crystallization and rising picture), but also the Empathic Food Testing and formative forces' research.

Gaby Mergardt and Uwe Geier reported the most important results of this study in the journal Lebendige Erde (German). This article was translated to Englisch for "Star and Furrow" (Autumn 2024) as well as to Dutch for "biodynamisch perspectief".
